Disabled Passenger Tax Relief

Hi Folks,

I have been researching the disabled passengers scheme and have a few queries that i cant seem to find the details on.

For a child with special needs who is not in a wheelchair but has a PMC due to mobility issues what level of adaptions are required.

I see they must be fixed, permanent and relevant.

For e.g a special needs car safety harness/seatbelt is 1k and a special needs car seat is anything up to 2k.

Are these considered enough adaptions to apply?

I have read in different places that the spend on adaptions should be 10% and somewhere wlse it should be 30% but Revenue as far as i can see mentions nothing on required level of spend

If anyone has been through this or knows any advice would be apprectiated

I read a number of threads on the topic and could see you were helpful in some.

If anyone mentioned the required spend on adaptions i could not see it.

Contact your local Health Care Center. Assessment will be carried out. If the child qualifies. A Primary medical cert. is issued which will suffice in getting on the scheme.

Thanks for your reply i mentioned above that i have a PMC for him sorry i had it abbreviated.

My query is more on the level of adaption required to be accepted

Before i posted i reviewed the scheme documents, googled it, read numerous threads on here and boards. Read IWA, DDAI and Revenue documents.

I posted here as i could not find the info anywhere else on a point i wanted clarified

Revenue documents dont include the info i have a quote for work i need to do but based on the 10% and 30% comments i mentioned above it would have been under 30%, thats why i was asking on the limit.

A number of years back to qualify for the scheme an adaptation had to be a % of the base metal price of the car.
That is gone. Phone Motability Ireland 01-8359173. Or visit them in Ashbourne. They will fill you in and offer you the best adaptation to get you over the line.
You will not have a problem once you have a Primary Medical Cert.
