I know people who have had it in the past. If you have no alternative then it’s much better than nothing or dial-up. But even a mediocre wired broadband service or point-to-point wireless connection will give you a much better experience for less money.
The issue is simply down to how far the satellite is away, data takes a long time to get there and back (latency). This isn’t a problem when you’re say streaming a video or download, but is a killer for voice calls and browsing.
This will look very different in a year or two when the likes of SpaceX’s low earth orbit satellite broadband is available here however, though FTTH will still be quicker and cheaper if it’s available to you.
