Deleted Messenger Programme but everytime I log in it still pops up in toolbar.

I had deleted a messenger programme using add or remove programmes but everytime I log in it still pops up and is appearing in my toolbar ...any ideas how i can delete it?

Goto
Run> cmd enter msconfig
Click startup tab & see is there any reference to it there.If there is uncheck it click apply & restart

thks was i suppose to type that in the run box? Im running XP..sorry am not great with the pc.....
