I spoke with my solicitor today and he informs me that Pepper (on behalf of Danske) should have the Deed of Assignment...so I need to chase them down.

When mortgage was taken out , Zurich were probably advised by Danske that the Mortgage protection policy was to repay Danske,s Mortgage should you claim.
The actual document (assignment) is probably still held by Danskes Legal Dept.It is unlikely Danske would hand over Legal Docs to Pepper. Pepper are effectively just a collection company.
If Danske cannot provide said assignment , and they possibly/probably cannot, given that they are using Pepper to tidy up as Danske exits Ireland and Danske are not too worried about helping customers.
Suggest write to (keep copies) asking Danske to confirm.
1.Do Danske have an assignment, marked against your policy.
2. Confirm that they hold actual assignment document.
3. On acknowledgment of A&B, write to Danske ,copy Zurich and ask that said Deed of Assignment be forwarded to Zurich so as you may process your claim.
I know this is a bit of a pain and will take more time.

On Mortgage Protection Policies , companies seem to have a knack of not accepting what consumer think of as valid claims , eg it is now hard to prove heart attacks etc.
Be careful in the way you advance your claim.
