De Dietrich - parts problem

Just thought I'd post a little notice about problems I've been having with parts for a De Dietrich oven. Part of the reason for me buying this brand was because there were quite a few positive posts on AskAboutMoney. In the light of my experience I thought these needed to be balanced out a bit...

i bought a De Dietrich single pyroclean oven and a microwave combination oven about 2 1/2 years ago - both are fitted units.

Recently at about the same time the bulb in the microwave failed and the door lock on the oven. The repair guy charged about €140 parts and labour for the door lock but didn't have a bulb for the oven.

This is where the fun started - it turns out that the microwave "built-in" unit needs to be removed to replace the bulb. Not exactly optimal design.

So, while removing the microwave (it's above the oven) I managed to dislodge the front control plate of the oven below - no biggie, it's happened before. This time however it also removed a control knob and when I went to replace it I realised the shaft which the knob is attached to had broken. I sourced the microwave bulb and a replacement knob on the De Dietrich parts website. The knob - a small plastic knob - was £13 plus shipping!

When I got it I found that it didn't include the shaft (although the shaft is pretty much bonded to the knob). The shaft is part of the "oven timer unit" (i.e. the bit it plugs into). Cost for replacement? £120.

This for a small piece of plastic which couldn't cost more than 5 cents to manufacture.

De Dietrich's only response to my querying the cost was from their Director of Service:
"I am sorry that you are not happy with our response however, I must concur with the content and can only reiterate that this is correct."

Not very helpful.

This gear is not cheap 'n' cheerful, but mid- to high-range stuff and priced accordingly. I don't expect the parts to last forever but I DO expect to be treated like a valued customer not an annoyance.

They've lost my business in future.

Your experience is unfortunate but, put in context, cannot implicate De Dietrich as being a substandard manufacturer. As you said yourself, many others on this forum have recommended them and I'm sure most have had no issues.

But I do understand your pain at what happened.
