daylight lighting in dark room

Our dining room (homework table/games table/general sitting around table area) is fairly dark. We toyed with the idea of getting velux into adjoining garden room to help get more light in but have decided not to do this for a while.

In the meantime, what kind of lighting could we use to mimic daylight in this area without it looking too drastic? In art circles I've heard of fluorescent 5200 K tubes but would this also be good for in a dining room?

Any feedback much welcomed.

tks for the response.

I had thought of those before but a) we're thinking that if we do stay in this house we'll want to use the attic space so wouldn't want to take anything away from the space now and b) it's a 2 storey house so the tunnel would be going through a bedroom upstairs!!!

Tks Leo.

that website doesn't do delivery to Ireland but it did seem to have the products that could be of use.

Yeah, should give you an idea about what you're looking for though. Some of the specialist lighting shops here should be able to source them for you. Perhaps EBay might be an option too.
