damp patch

hi,

recently bought a house and repainted it. since the repainting a damp patch has remained on the internal wall of the house between the sitting room and the hall. damp patch has been there for 2 months with no signs of improvement. any ideas what might cause the problem and what would be required to fix it?
 
Could be an old stain bleeding through the paint (the stain could have been caused by a previous leak). A coat of "stain stop" then another coat of paint should do it.

Unless of course, it's recurring dampness, which means you'll need to sort out the leak first.
