Damp on floor

Hi all,

Am getting new carpet down in the sitting room, same room as kitchen which has lino. Anyhow lovely surprise waiting for me in the form of some damp.
Black spots under the lino.
Under the carpet there is not so much damp as in moisture leaking though and it was rotting the underlay and carpet - polywhatitsname carpet, which probably explains why we didn't get the whiff that greeting me when I took up the carpet.
I suspect the rotting of the carpet is due to the fact I replaced the gun barrell piping a couple of years ago and that the DPC was not replaced - the dampness is along the lines of floor dug up to replace gun barrell with qualpex (sic).
Anyhow, bit academic as I do not have much time to hand as new carpet is being layed tomorrow evening and I dont want to put it off.
Was half thinking of laying some DPC - 1000 ?? - under the carpet underlay?
Is this worthwhile?
As a long term solution would it be an idea to file the entire room?

Appreciate informed timely replies

Tks in advance

There is a method of injecting a chemical (silicate?) in to damp walls to stop them sucking up moisture from the foundation, could this be used for your floor?
Installing a plastic sheet under the carpet would not stop the water from coming up. It would delay the problem. But sooner or later the moisture would build up becoming droplets , pudles and these would find their way either into the walls -where the sheet ends - or even through the plastic sheet itself.

tks for reply heinbloed, thought the same thing about the DPC sheet alright, what would you think about a waterproof sealer, would this have the same effect, I mean it's not as if I'm fixing the source of the problem.
If I seal the floor will the "damp" make its way to the walls - and a lot of my pipework runs along the walls?
What about the tiling? Same again?
Tks

Since the dpc had been demaged I'm afraid the moisture might creep sideways from the damp repaired concrete to the old screed . And then further on . This injection stuff can be bought in builders supliers shops. And injecting it vertically into a floor demands no great skills or tools . You wouldn't need a pump or tubes etc.. Drill holes into the new concrete strip ( and not to deep because of the pipe!) and fill these with the chemical untill saturated . Stick to the manual/label of the sealant container. Maybe the manufacturer has a home page or a helpline for details. I'm not sure , but could a company called " sicca " be selling the material? Try a hardware /builders suppliers shop , they might know more about it .

The Company you refer to is "Sika" who manufacture waterproofing and specialist building chemicals.

tks guys, plumber should have really taken care of this at the time, still, live and learn, I will get the carpet down today and pull her up in a year to see how things are, if its as bad as it was last night - scrubed clean and dried out now - then I will take remedial steps.
