Cream quartz counter top stained - all like this?

We recently installed a new walnut kitchen and chose an off white quartz counter top to go with it.

The counter has been prone to staining since it was installed (tea and coffee stain it) so we asked the guy who installed it to rectify the problem. He went back to the supplier who said they've had a "bad batch" of quartz and had a lot of complaints about staining and that they weren't stocking this type of counter in future.

They offered to replace it with granite, but the off white ones they showed us had a lot of flecking in them as opposed to the solid colour of the quartz one.

The suppliers sent someone out to do a sand and reseal and while it got rid of the existing marks, new marks are starting to reappear.

We haven't paid for the installer for the counter top and won't until the problem is resolved. To their credit, both the installer and the supplier have been very helpful in terms of trying to sort the problem out but so far they haven't come up with a solution that works for us, ie they're saying things along the lines of "the colour will always stain choose a different finish".

I'm hoping that someone might be able to let me know if its possible to get a pale counter top that doesn't stain. I'm not opposed to granite, but want a finish with a uniform colour (no flecks). If anyone's got a supplier to add to the list that would be great too.

the qaurtz should be sealed before it left the factory, we have quartz for the last 3 years and never had a problem with staining once or scratching..

we got ours from www.pennywell.ie , based in limerick, could praise there professionalism.

sounds like you've got what we need, as a matter of interest, is your counter top a pale colour? The supplier / installer have said that the problem is with counter tops that are pale rather than quartz tops in general.

Hi Steamer, ours is grey and white and the white sections never get stained, we have two kids and don't take any special care of the worktop, it wipes clean with water and always leaves a lovely shine, i don't understand what your supplier is saying because the worktop should be sealed, if this is done properly then it doesn't matter what falls on it, its the same when you buy porceline tiles, some need to be sealed and you pay extra because they are cheap to buy...i'd say your supplier is trying to pull a fast one in using cheap quartz that hasn't been sealed, you say that they came out and sand/sealed it, this would not be sufficient for a worktop, these need to be removed and factory sealed using proper industrial polishers...best of luck
