Cracked Chimney breast

Hi,

See attached picture of my chimney breast.
As you can see the block work is in bad order and is all cracked. The chimney is is perfect working order with a good draw and not smoking etc. Is this a case of wrapping chimney in reinforcing mesh and re plastering or a demolition /rebuild? Any advice or recommendations much appreciated?

neighbours has a crack in the chimmey, unfort had chimmey fire and smoke leaked out through the crack into the attic, firemen said they lucky a spark didnt escape and ignite the attic. Took builders two weeks to remove and rebuild. They claimed it off the house insurance. Perhaps not a help at all to you but maybe a consideration...
