Hi

Can someone tell me where I can get countertop that looks like granite but is really not

A shop I know sells something called avonite which is nice, but I am hoping to see if there are other options available.

This avonite stuff requires specially trained installers

regards:)

Do you mean a counter top for a kitchen? I was in B&Q in Mahon Point during the week and they have a good selection of what you referred to. I'm sure you'd get them in Woodies and Atlantic Homecare also. You could also try the likes of Cash and Carry Kitchens on Tramore Road.

I reckon any carpenter could install the products they have.

Joshea, just be careful, the artificial resin countertops are so easy to damage by scoring with a knife or a hot pot, they can break your heart trying to keep in good condition.

We have bought Ionite from In-house in Dublin, they may have a branch in Cork. If not you will be able to order this through Kitchenworld, Cash and Carry.

Installation is the same as for a solid counter top except the joints are resin bound together. A good carpenter who takes his time setting out will do a really good job with this worktop. You need to use the undercounter joint straps so be prepared to pay for the jointing as a special router jig is needed. Last prices I heard were €120-150 per joint, approx x3 bolts per joint are needed.
