Could allowing rent supplements expose me to being audited?

I bought a property a couple of years ago and although I rented out the rooms I did not pay stamp duty as a first time buyer. I have since realised that I should have paid the stamp duty due to not owner occupying and if I was to be audited by the revenue I would pay it plus a fine. Whatever your thoughts on the moral implications I have decided not to pay the stamp duty for now.

The issue I now have is that I have a renter who has been there for over a year and has since lost his job. He wants to claim for a rent supplement allowance. I don't have any issue with this except my tenants are only registered with the prtb since the beginning of this year and he needs evidence of paying rent for 6 months.

My fear is in that excepting payment via rent supplements it will expose me to an audit. Are the social welfare and revenue likely to exchange this information?

In short, yes. But since you've registered with the PRTB since the start of this year - which presumably was within the 2 year period - then they already have access to your information.

The 2 year period had passed when I registered with prtb
