Cost of re-fitting a new bathroom

Hi I was wondering if anyone could run their eye over this and give me their opinion. I live in Dublin city centre and recently had a plumber recommended by a friend who gave me a quote of €4500 to refit and supply a new bathroom (excluding tiling!) Does this sound expensive?? He did a great job on my friend's place but I'm on a tight budget. He did say he may be able to reduce labour costs and save me a few hundred euro. The bathroom is quite small (a former corporation house!)

The job includes
1. The removal of existing units
2. The supply and fitting of a new wh basin, toilet, shower unit/tray etc and mirror
3. Change of location of wh basin and toilet to create more space

I may save some money by keeping a bath and doing away with a new shower unit. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

sounds expensive, I got a similar job done and cost me 4,000 including tiles, tiling and a whirlpool bath I got on the cheap.

It was a job well done, made my small bathroom look big ;-)

Thanks. Yeah it seems very expensive. If you have a number or details of who did that job for you, it would be hugely appreciated! As I said I'm based in Dublin city centre - cheers!

I had my bath removed sink and toilet replaced and a new shower installed, also floor and walls tiled all for 2,500. Again a small bathroom but now fab. I also live in Dublin.

Mine is costing a bit more than the OPs. However having saved hard I am getting Villeroy and Bosch fittings. They cost a lot but are great quality. The tiles are Italian polished stuff, lovely. I know I might sound smug, I am not at all, just saying, yes, I could have got the bathroom done for half the price, but I am getting exactly what I want, worked hard to pay for it, after all these years, cannot wait to get rid of the horrible bathroom that is there now.

At some point in the future (saving again!) I hope to put an ensuite in, but might use less expensive fittings for that. The main bathroom will get a lot more use.

Best of luck to all bathroom changers, mine hopefully going in next week all going well.

thats a massive price. the labour on that shouldn't be any more €1000 and at that its pushing it. you should buy the ware yourself and just pay the labour. i'd do a complete bathroom renovation for less than that including the tiling. i'm getting pushed to lower my prices at the moment and my prices are low as it is.

If you buy the ware, you pay VAT at 21.5%. If it is included in a contract, the VAT rate is 13.5%.

i replaced bathroom 4 yrs back and final cost was approx 4k but done most of it myself.. thing is i bought few expensive items

costs - bath 1200 (whirlpool).. taps 500 (real cool).. etc..

So i suggest you buy the items yourself as you get what you want... some bathroom furniture is relatively low cost so difficult to say if you have an expensive deal or not.
