Just looking for feedback.

I have had granite windowsills fitted to a new build.
The blocklayers have stated that fitting granite windowsills are charged at a daily rate as fitting concrete windowsills are charged at an houly rate. He claims it is due to the fact that the concrete sills are 9" while granite sills are 15" and so are heavier.
Has anyone had granite sills fitted, and was there an extra charge, as the supplier of the sills claims that it is nonense.

Thanks

In general forming opes including fitting cills is allowed for by measuring through the opes. However this would be with standard details. With large/heavy cills or heads the work is slower and paying through the ope is not appropriate. If all of the cills are of a similar size perhaps you could agree a price per cill for fitting. If if takes an extra hour per cill to fit. The price per cill would be the agreed hourly rate. With heavier cills 2 men are required for lifting/fitting and this may have to be factored in to price. Second man for lifting/fitting should be unskilled and cheaper.

While my OH does not charge extra for installing granite sills he does insist that the client provides the use of a teleporter.

These sills are terribly heavy and even though 2 strong men can lift, this can do fierce damage to a persons back and can also be very dangerous while installing in upstairs windows.

With the use of a teleporter, approximately 20 sills can be installed and the cost of teleporter is approx €180 euro for a day hire.

The block layers are trying to pull a fast one on you because you are choosing to use a good product . They feel they should be making more money . I can understand if they wany to charge you a few hundred more because its a little harder to cut & the joints have to be very good as tehy dont look good filled

granite windowsills should come already cut to size of opes + 4" either side. Bay windowsills should also come cut to size with the 45 degree angle. The only windows that should need joining are these bay windows.

Thanks everyone for your very interesting replies.
All the windowsills were precut by the supplier. The fitters did use a teleporter to lift the sills. However they are still insisting that the cost of fitting granite sills are on a daily rate while fitting conctete sills are on an hourly rate.
