If you were getting your (old) roof re-slated, should you inform your Home insurance in advance?
I would think so, but there's no where to inform them when you login (Allianz) on the site, and the only phone number is for "claims only".

I would definitely think you have to, usually any big work and a new roof I think would fit into that category, downside is it usually reduces your cover for the period of the work. I also had to produce the workers insurance policy for my own insurance company.

I'd ring the claims number, they'll redirect you or give you the correct number.

No harm to ring them up and check rather than rely advice here. Go direct to the font of knowledge. ;)
They will record the interaction so covering you in any event

You probably mean covering them.....many companies have a tendency not to be able to find recordings when it suits. While they'll all tell you they record calls, they don't retain lost of those recordings.

I'm not saying that you don't have to do this type of thing but in light of it being impossible to get reliable workers these days I would be inclined to get my hands on the proof of their insurance policy before doing anything i.e. speak to them first. If they don't have it or refuse to provide it you don't want to land up looking for new contractor at the last minute.

Yes I'd agree in general but I knew who I was dealing with! Best builder/workmen ever, would happily have them back in the morning and hoping they will be available to replace my velux this summer!
