Im 22 year old primary school teacher in a permanent position. I have been teaching for 1 year. the other teachers in my school have advised me to take out an AVC. Having read some of the posts on this site i'm really confused.
will i be able to pay in such a way that i can retire at 60 instead of 65?
Could anybody give me any advise on whats the best move in my situation or point me in the direction of independent advice?

Hi LouKel, and welcome to AAM.

Ive changed your title somewhat to more fully reflect your question.

Do a search for "teacher" and "AVC" and you will get plenty of hits on the topic.

LouKel,

I have some experience of giving advice to teachers.

My advice:

Don't do anything unless you find all the information. Don't buy or sign up to any AVC until you first fully understand your own occupational pension.

Also, think about your other financial goals in life before you commit funds to an AVC.
