Hi all we have a condensing dryer under the stairs and have done for 1-2 yrs
there appears to be a lot of cracks in all the plaster on all the edges as a result of having this here. we bought a condensor as we dont have room for the dryer anywhere other than understairs but they still generate a lot of heat.
Are we damaging anything by having it under the stairs or is it simply the plaster cracking.
I dont want to be weakening the beams or anything and one day the stairs are going to collapse!
Please help a new houseowner that does not know if he is damaging his home!
If there is water collecting you would begin to see mould appearing. You should have a good hunt about for this. Mould would damage the wood but its also bad for your health.
I'd leave the door open a lot to let the under stairs ventilate, maybe even fit a vent to the door?
Also make sure to keep the dryer clear of any clutter that would interfere with ventilation.
The plaster under the stairs will crack from people running up and down the stairs anyhow.
there is no water. thanks all for your help im not as worried now. i have told the wife to leave door open at all times its on (she said she did that anyway) and will not worry bout it.
