Concrete under timber flooring

Hi

i am building a new house and want to have all timber flooring ( i am on a very tight budget) the builder is advising semi solid floors and i am not sure if this is what i want?
also is there any need to put Concreat under the timber flooring? are high density chiip board laid on solid battens just as good?

You would normally HAVE to have concrete as your subfloor. You can lay battens in the concrete and then just nail the wood flooring to that. No need for chipboard.
