Company Bank Account for IT Contractor...

Can any IT contractors recommend a bank with a suitable company account ie. ideally fee-free, accompanying deposit account, Internet access and chequebook.

Trying to set up after contracting in the UK and finding it tricky! The few banks I've been to so far want business plans.
 
I'm with bank of scotland Ireland. They are free for day to day banking. You get what you pay for though, they don't have many branches (Their branches are Halifax) but if its just online and cheques you need (which is all I ever use) then I would recommend them. Another problem to consider is that their online banking does not work on Vista and they have no plans to upgrade. I have to keep an XP box just for online banking.

No business plan needed, just your cert, memorandum and articles of association. If you don't have memorandum and articles of association you can simply go to the CRO website, download somebody elses and change the name.

With all respects this is a crazy suggestion, which if acted upon could see the OP implicated in fraudulent misrepresentation.

It is as easy to download from www.cro.ie, the memorandum and articles for one's own company as it is for any other company.
 
I have all the company paperwork! Thanks for the BOS tip though, hadn't thought of them.
 
i didn't need a business plan when i setup with Bank Of Ireland - just memorandum etc.
 

Seriously I don't think anyone cares. Make your mind up though, if you think someone is going to know you copied it then don't do it. Bear in mind if you go to one of those professional company registration companies they just take the same generic template for your related field and stick your name on it, as does a solicitor or accountant.

I opened my company account with Bank of Ireland and like nai I only needed the memorandum and Articles of Assoc. Like the OP it was a company purely for contract work but the second director (i.e the OH!) had to be there to complete the paperwork. Took 20 mins to setup and they gave me a temp chequebook straight away, the company chequebook took about 10 days.

No fees for the first two years but they do charge for their internet banking.
 

With respect, I think your understanding of the OP's question is slightly confused.

When forming their own companies, some people go to cro.ie, download an existing memo & articles and use this effectively as a template for their own company. They then file the formation application with the CRO. If all is in order the company is formed, otherwise the application is rejected.

The OP appears to be in a totally different situation. They presumably already have formed their company (otherwise they won't have a certificate of incorporation) and need to present their bank with the cert and a copy of the company's memo & articles, which the CRO will already have on file as a precondition of establishing the company in the first instance. You suggested that instead of downloading this from CRO, they go off, doctor someone else's, bring it to the bank and pass this off as their own. This does not make sense and would not do the OP any favours with the bank as it is technically fraud. (To be fair I don't think that you intended this).
 
Thanks everyone, Ubiq is correct, no fraud intended or required!

I've had a nice evening filling in forms for Ulster Bank (cider helped) and I'll be getting three years fee-free banking (for regular transactions anyway) including free Internet access too (eg. interbank transfers from your online account etc.).

Or so I believe. Dropping the paperwork off tomorrow.
