Co Wicklow stipulations

My wife and are looking at property in Co. Wicklow which has planning permission stipulation that we must be resident in Co Wicklow for at least one year and / or have been in full time employment in county for one year.

We have only just relocated back to Ireland the first of November and have no way of meeting these requirements. Although these stipulations seem to be dscriminatory, our solicitor has informed us these types of requriements are allowed at this time in Ireland.

Has anyone had any deals with these types of requirements? Any suggestions on how to get around them?

What is the penalty if we would be found out to not have work for the previous year in wicklow?

Any assistance would be great.

There was an article in the Irish Times property supplement last Thursday expressing horror at how this scheme was being extended up to properties in the €1 million category.

That said that if you can fool them for long enough to buy the property there's nothing that can be done to take it off you.

Judging by the inglorious recent history of the Irish "planning process", some might say that a well-placed brown envelope is your best bet...

Welcome home! Hope you can find a way around this requirement (blatantly discriminatory, and sure to be overturned by EU law at some point in the future).
