I'm not sure that you actually have to have a qualification to get a job as an SNA,
- Each appointee must be of good character.
- Candidates must be over 17 and under 65 years of age on 1st September
- Candidate must have been awarded Grade D (or pass) at least, in Irish, English and Mathematics in the Junior Cert, in the Day VEC or equivalent

...but obviously the more training/experience you have the more likely you are to get hired. Have you talked to a principal in a local school?

The short answer is you dont need a specific qualifcation but there are so many people out there now with something, e.g. FETAC Level 5 etc, it's best to have something.

See www.progressivecollege.com this college delivers via distance and through local centres via VECs - check in your local area.

If you want to become an SNA you will have to have a qualification for a school to hire you..

I have recently finished my training and have FETAC Level 5 and Froebel College cert.
there are some courses out there that only give FETAC level 5 but you are best to get both qualifications as you can then work in primary and secondary schools, the two qualifications are more expensive but are def worth it..

feel free to fire questions in my direction if i can help you in anyway

I dont need some smart-ass to tell me how to spell. I just didn't have my glasses on when typing the post. I suppose you're the Minister for Education or Einstein or who ever... maybe even the grammar police?

Thanks to everyone else for their replies.

dont mind the smart alecs, come on !! some people have nothing better to do but pick out spelling errors in posts, thats how they past the time!!

sure isnt it the simplest mistake ever to hold your finger on the s key for more than a second!!

dont mind them !!!

Margaret, you could also ask some of the schools in your area for some work experience, a few people have done that in my school before they started courses etc and it looks good on the cv. In fact, forget about the cv, it will be a great experience for you before you start any courses. Also look on the SNA section of the message board on educationposts.ie, it's about the only non juvenile section of that site.
