Claiming unemployment benefit

Hi all,

I've been working part time for the last year and a half. My employer is paying a stamp for me each week. I earn 70 euro for 1 days work per week.
From June onwards, the work that I have been doing is no longer there, so I will be leaving my job.

Am I entitled to claim unemployment benefit? I presume my employer has been paying a 'J' stamp for me, but on a leaflet I read it said you had to be paying A, H or P contributions.

What can I do?

Full details of the PRSI contribution qualification criteria for UB are detailed on the DSFA site:

www.welfare.ie/schemes/unemp/index.html

If you don't qualify for UB through insufficient PRSI contributions then you may qualify for (means tested) UA.

If you leave your job voluntarily then you entitlement to UB/UA may be delayed for a certain number of weeks.

It should be to your advantage if you employer makes you redundant, rather than you leaving voluntarily.
