I bought a motorbike in the north recently. Its a 2008 model but as the mileage was very low I was charged vat when registering it here.
Somebody told me if I keep the receipt I can claim the UK vat back
I know nothing about this so thats why I am asking here
If this is true can someone explain to me how I would go about this
The only reference I can find is from the Citizens Information website where it states in relation to importing a vehicle...
VAT
If you are importing a new car from another EU country you have to pay VAT (Value Added Tax), usually when registering the car. A new car means a car that has been in service for 6 months or less, or has been driven for 6,000 kilometres or less. The VAT is payable even where you have paid VAT in the other country.
You could ask the question on one of the motorcycle forums - or www.biker.ie
If you go to UK Revenue website and type in "Form 411". This form should be completed by you and the seller. The seller should not charge you VAT (or if already has they should refund it to you)
