Hi there,

I am applying for a job in civil service and thinking of doing the irish language test option.
Does anyone know what exp level you need to attempt the test?
I did honours leaving cert irish albeit some time ago so with some brush up I think I'd give it a shot.

Any advice appreciated.

You don't need to be very good! Try to practise speaking about something familiar eg. favorite sport, recent holiday, your family etc. and then try to steer the conversation in that direction. Seems to work quite often ;)

Should be easy enough if you've done higher level Irish. I've taken the test and had no problems after a bit of brushup. My advice would be to borrow some Irish language CDs from your local library; I just stuck them on in the car in the morning and was fine. Pay attention to the nature of the job you're applying for and make an extra effort to learn some of the lingo - eg: office talk, internet, customer service etc...
