Hi
Wondering if someone can give me some advice.
My sister in law is off work sick at the moment and I'm trying to help family get some info.
She has been out 3 months, and is a civil servant. Its looking very serious and she could be out for quite a while. Its quite a worry on the money side of things too as her husband is on a 3 day week at the moment as well as trying to cope with this !
Just looking for some info. Would she be entitled to claim some sort of critical illness cover? Or once you use up all sick days would she just have to claim off the social welfare ??
Hope i've worded this right :)

Any advice of help would be great as family need some help sorting this or knowing what to do next.

Thank you

Hi Susie,
Sorry to hear about your sister in law's ill health. In relation to whether she can claim social welfare it would make a difference if she were pre 95 civil servant or post 95 as she would be paying different types of contributions. Broadly speaking if she were pre 95 she would be paying B cons and therefore probably only entitled to claim something like Disability Allowance which is a means tested payment. If she is post 95 she will be paying A cons and therefore could apply for Illness Benefit and perhaps further down the line Invalidity.

Best of luck to all,
