While I am concerned by the democratic deficit surrounding the Citizens Assembly, no other gathering of 99 citizens can get its musings before a Dail committee, it has certainly livened things up recently.
The proposal that farmers should pay a carbon tax seems long overdue to my mind. Although just ending the diesel subsidy would seem a more obvious starting point.
