My OH is a primary school teahcer and always gets presents, some of them too expensive.
She always hated receiving them as she knew that many parents probably couldn't afford them, but perhaps felt that they couldn't be seen coming to school without one if everyone else was bringing one.
I told her to tell the parents that she was accepting presents but she said that she would be embarrassed to do this, in case some parents hadn't planned to get her something. It should be the schools policy that no Xmas presents are bought for the teachers.
I think she would have appreciated a Xmas card made by each pupil much more than another load of shower gels and perfumes.
