Today I decided to clean the chimney and it went fine until I was withdrawing the brush when a fairly large bit of cement approx 6" by 4" fell down the chimney with the brush. It probably came from about half way up although I cannot see from where.
The dislodged part is black(sooty) on one side and cement colour on the other.
Anyone have something like this happen to them, who could offer advice on who to contact now ?
I would be reluctant to light a fire until this is fixed.

Thanks

yellow pages- fireplace/chimney installers will inspect and repair. Inspection is done with special camera they will also advise on insurance claim- damage could have caused by fire prior to cleaning.

Mortar could have been stuck to flue liner when built and has only now been dislodged.the chances of it being more serious are slim as you would have got a piece of the flue liner and some filling falling down as well

Thanks csmd
I hope that is the case.
I will use the oil for the time being, so no immediate panic on my part.
I wonder would the house insurance cover it if it turned out to be the more serious problem ? I will have to ring them at some stage I suppose.
