Child Maintenance & Inflation

Just wondering if someone could clarify this issue for me. When a separation agreement is put in place, how are child maintenance payments "future proofed" to take account of future inflation or deflation? I am in the public sector, and am looking at either pay decreases or static pay for quite a while into the future most likely. My preference is to have payments linked to net take home pay increases or decreases, rather than Central Statistics Office End Year CPI or inflation (however that is measured!) or some other parameter. What is the "usual way" or "most common" approach to this? Is a net pay increase or decrease formula commonly used?
