Am new to this but Finally determined to overcome inertia. Couple 63 years old. Lifetime with VHI. What is a good cheaper alternative plan to Health Plus Extra either with VHI or other insurer and providing similar cover . Would like to keep orthopedic and cardiac cover. Not adverse to smallish excesses if necessary for a good deal. Irish Life Best Ultimate 2 seems to come out at 700 + cheaper per person. Are there downsides to this switch or are there better.

dubwx,

The one main difference between Health Plus Extra and Best Ultimate 2 is the 2000 co-payment for hip and knee replacement surgery in any
private or hi-tech hospital. The Blackrock Clinic does not charge this 2000 to the patient for this type of surgery so unless this is a hospital
of interest to you, this plan would not keep orthopaedic surgery the way it is covered at the moment.

The following VHI plans are worth considering without compromising on orthopaedic and cardiac cover;
1. Health plus Access; price 2074pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, no excess on this plan, good day to day cover
- first 100 not allowed.

2. Health plus Excess; price 1825pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess 75 per admission or day case visit.
Good day to day cover, first 100 not allowed.

3. Health Access; price 1685pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess 125 per admission or day case visit.
Good day to day cover, the first 100 not allowed.

4. Laya Simplicity Plan; price 1191pa; all public, private(including private room), and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess
100 x 2 max per year for all admissions, day case excess 50 per visit, good day to day cover - the first 100 not allowed.
