Changing a Euro Lock (on PVC door)....but NO key

Titles basically says it:

The key is lost and the door is open. There is another door before access can be gained to the property, so not a complete emergency.

I can remove the screw holding the lock in place, but don't have the key to shift the cam bit in the middle. I looked up the internet & I thought any key which would go in would do to just to get a grip, but the right key seems to be the part that moves the cam.

Anyone have any advice on how to remove the lock without the right key or do I have no choice but to call out a locksmith ?

Iin case I can't sort it, anyone any idea how much to get one out in the Dublin area for a non emergency call out?
 
I can pm you the name of a great locksmith, he doesn't charge a call out fee, most do and it is usually about €90+VAT.
 
Could you PM me the details......but if anyone has any other options, I'd be grateful.

Must look into doing a locksmith course, €90 + VAT....I reckoned more like €50!!

Lock itself will be 15 euro.

Pity you don't have the key,It's such an easy D.I.Y. job if you did.
 
If a door can be opened most standard locks will come out using standard household tools.

If this fails to work invest in a drill with steel drill bits and drill out the offending lock.

Basis DIY skills required.
 
Sorted, bro had number of a locksmith, called & he was out within the hour.

Probably could have done it myself (after seeing him do it), but didn't want to ruin the door. basically the lock has to be broken....had images of him unpicking the lock, but I guess that wouldn;t have moved the cam. A vice gripe probably would have done it.

A lot of these cylinders are easy to break, and so are a major vulnerability on many houses. A burgler can be inside within seconds. You can get anti-snap cylinders, more expensive but worth it.
 
True, but the majority of these locks are vulnerable to a simple force attack.
 
There are video's on youtube showing how easy it is to open cylinder locks - particularly the brand used on my own door....absolutely useless. Must get round to changing them one of these days..
