Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the name on a house that you have bought? Is it simply a case of just taking down the old one and replacing it with the new one?
Many thanks

When we moved we took our old house name with us and took down the existing one on our new house. Have had nothing but good luck (touch wood) so far. The people that moved to our old house took their old house's name with them also.

Hi Corkgal,

Yeah, but the name is highly representative of the previous owners surname, would have no relevance really...can see myself forever explaining its origins to anyone enquiring about it....but hey, just because its bad luck in Ireland would changing it to say a saints name eliminate the bad luck? : )

dubda in Cork...

Anyone can put a name on a house. It's your choice whether you want to retain or put a new name on a house. Tim Pat Coogan's house is called Eventually - he said that it was on the house when he moved in. It had a special significance but I forget what it was!

Eventually as in .....the mortgage being fully paid and owning the house ?

I have always thought that naming houses is very pretentious.

Numbers not good enough for some people.

In rural areas houses don't have numbers and sometimes the house name is the easiest way of making the house easy to find for visitors/deliveries etc.
