Hi - looking at getting our bathroom remodelled and want to tile it all. Ceramic seem cheaper to buy and fit but it seems porcelain are more durable but expensive to buy and fit. I have also heard that porcelain is hard to clean. Which is better for a bathroom ? I tired to search but couldn't find anything on this topic. Any advice ?

I have porcelain in the hall. When it gets wet it's very slippy. Not sure if you can get a rough porcelain, but whatever you opt for, make sure it's non-slip. I used natural slate in the bathroom, and it's much better in my opinion than either ceramic or porcelain.

Hello Ice, We recently had a fair bit of tiling done, Porcelain floor tiles in the kitchen running in to the utility room and downstairs toilet, Cream in colour and impossible to keep clean for more than five minutes, The dust shows up very easily so my wife follows me around with a brush when I come in from the back, The darker they are the more obvious the dust is according to our tiler. We used ceramic for the bathroom and they look great , When you say durable we were told again by our tiler that if you were to drop something on a tile and it cracked you can see the reddish colour coming through on a ceramic but not on porcelain. If you dont have anything very heavy in your bathroom that would crack a tile on impact I would go with ceramic for a bathroom. Maybe straying away from the point a bit but our tiler who is an old friend told us to purchase our tiles wherever suited us but say no when asked if we want grout and adhesive with our tiles, If your tiler is as straight forward as ours he can save you a lot of money by you buying tiles only and getting the grout and adhesive himself.

Correct and covered here on numerous threads. It's generally way cheaper buy adhesive and grout from the general builders providers than the tile showrooms.

Porcelain and ceramic are of similar make up, but porcelain uses more refined materials, hence they are more dense and will withstand more punishment.
