Hi everybody
I'll try to get to the point as fast as possible. I'm on jobseekers benefit and my wife was on a ce scheme until today she had a medical thru social welfare last week and they decided after 2 mins she was no longer eligable for ce scheme she was on disability benefit what I'm enquiring about is will this affect our mortage interest supplement which is 294.04 every 2 weeks as now it looks like she's out of work also. We are not used to claiming social welfare and don't really know much about how it all works. Thanks in advance

You should contact the CWO who deals wih your Mortgage Interest Supplement, advise them of your change of income and request a review. If the household income has gone down (which it may do, now that your wife is on Illness Benefit instead of a CE scheme), you may be entitled to an increased supplement.

thanks gipiman
but she was only on the ce scheme because she didn't qualify for any payment for illness benefit so she was permitted to do the ce by the social welfare which now means she will loose her 212.68 a week

Ok, I wasn't sure from your first post if she was going back on Illness Benefit.

You can claim for your wife as a Qualified Adult (Adult Dependant) on your Jobseeker's Benefit, which will increase your payment. You should contact your local office (where you sign on) as soon as possible, and bring any letters that your wife received regarding the medical & having to stop the CE scheme.

As the increase you wiill get is less than what she was getting on the CE scheme (Qualified Adult rate is currently €135.60 pw), you should ask for your Mortgage Interest Supplement to be reviewed.

Your wife could apply for Disability Allowance if she is likely to be ill long-term. This is a means-tested payment, not PRSI contribution based.

Hi just been reading your ce scheme thread, sorry I cant help you but maybe you can help me. Can you tell me how long a persong has to be unemployed to qualify for ce scheme
Thanks
