cashing a cheque

I have received a cheque made out to me and crossed "& Co." from a company.

It would be extremely convenient if I could get the cash tomorrow for use on Saturday.

I've read other postings and it seems that even if I go to the issuing branch I won't get cash as it is crossed.

Is this true?

Also, is there any way I can get the issuing bank to confirm that cheque would not bounce? If so I would use my own funds on Sat and wait for the cheque to clear.

As far as I know crossed cheques should only be lodged if the banks do the right thing. I doubt that you can get cash for this until you have lodged it and it clears into your account. I also doubt that the issuing bank can (or maybe will) guarantee that it will not bounce. might have more info for you.
