Hi there,
my 9 year old daughter has Aspergers and I was awarded DCA last year. She has a bowel condition, linked to the Aspergers, which means that she is not toilet trained yet so she requires constant attention for her daily bodily functions in that respect. When i was awarded DCA no-one mentioned that i might be able to claim for Carer's Allowance as well. However, now from reading up on the many posts on this site I believe that i should be claiming Carer's Allowance.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi there, my son also receives DCA. Judging from your story you should be entitled to C.A. However if you receive another S.W payment you will only be entitled to Half Rate Carers Allowance. You will also be entitled to: bus pass for you and her, subsidised gas or electricity payments and land line or mobile bill. The only bad thing is you cannot get back payment just because you didn't know about it.
We didn't know about it for almost a year! But when we did apply it was dealt with fairly quickly
Go to citizens advice center and they will help you with everything.
Good Luck :)
