Career Change

Hi All

I'm thinking about a Career change and moving in the IT field. I'm proficent on MS office and some AS400 applacations but all the training I have done on this has been in house with the JOB.
I would like to start to get some certs , Anybody who has any advice on where to start on the ladder would be very welcome

If people are going to upskill from one completly different sector to another , Is there a "you need this before you can progress to this " manual / guide ?
