career change - Going back to college

I am considering a career change in my mid 30's. I would like to go back to college. I am a family man so I will need to support my family whilst studying.

Has anyone got any advice on any grants etc that are there for this type of thing.

Also does anyone have any knowledge of the entry requirements for Mature Students for the major Dublin universities?
 
well there is funding available - contact your local VEC office to find out how to apply for it, there are fairly strict rules attached re: previous years income etc must not exceed a certain amount.

if you want to support you're family you can always work part-time it just depends on the hours you have on the course, your own time management skills etc.

Hi - Apart fom being over 23 yrs old, i think it would really vary depending on what course you apply for E.g. if you are applying for a Science type course, then having done a science subject in the LC would still stand to you on the CAO form. The entrance criteria are usually are more flexible for Mature students, as they give you credit for 'life' and 'work experience' in your application. It's not strictly based on old exam results, from what I have seen anyway. UCD etc. have links on their URLs for Mature Entrants, I found them very helpful when I contacted them directly.
