Car parking - an allowable expense?

I use my own car on an occasional basis for business purposes (circa 3000 mls per annum). I get paid the full Civil Service mileage allowance. I have been told that I can also claim for my on-street car parking costs, even for parking outside my workplace. I am not so sure.

Can anyone confirm the position?

If its for business purposes then the answer is yes assuming that it is not outside your offices i.e. you similarly cannit claim mileage to your place of business.

The civil service rates would not apply to 'sole traders' by the way, only companies.

Simple answer if you are an employee on the payroll - no

It must be wholly exclusively and neccessarily in the performance of your duties. you dont need to park your car oustide to do your job so you dont get a deduction. If you went out to see a customer or client etc.... and parked outside their place of business it would be allowable
