Car Charging from terraced house

Hi - it's been suggested I add a new thread to ask a question I initially asked here.

Has anyone any experience with solutions for home charging where you have no off-street parking, but have a dedicated space in front of the house?

I've seen two potential solutions mentioned online:
  • A charging arm - the cable delivered to the car from the above, the arm swings over the payment up high
  • Cable on the ground covered by anti-trip solution
I don't like the likely cost of the first one, and the second one comes with a certain amount of liability if someone trips on it. So it would be good to hear if anyone has proceeded with either, or has experience or advice on either.

As someone who pushes a wheelchair, I dislike the second option and think they should not be allowed, as easy as they are to walk over the experience for a wheelchair user going over these things is very uncomfortable and if they were to become more common would be a real issue.

Can you feed the cable from an upstairs window ? Or from a hook fixed at sufficient height to your front wall.
If you can you could buy or make an upright pole with a section at the base that you drive the car wheel over. These are used at car dealers to display an advertising banner. Anybody with a welder could make one up very easily.

I have a similar problem. I want an electric car but I have "sensitive" neighbours and I don't want to upset them. The cable across the floor I expect they won't like.....and I don't think they will like how the charging arm looks.....is the council any closer to taking an interest in this problem,?

Article linked to is behind IT paywall, but it appears the pole and arm are on public property, possibly built without planning permission.

What about a pole / arm attached to the house that swings out over the reserved(?) parking space?

The pole is in the guy's front garden, it swings out over the pavement.

"Like most houses in the area, his home has no off-street parking. The pole installed in his front garden hosts an arm which extends over the footpath allowing a cable to reach his car."
(From the IT article)

A government public consultation was announced earlier in the week around planning exemptions. Wooden shacks in our gardens so our kids can live with us forever got most of the attention, but there was actually a bunch of other topics in there.

The review of the exempted development regulations has identified areas of specific interest that are in need of updating, and also potential new areas where exemptions should be considered.

Residential streets with no off-street parking for domestic charging but need to avoid street clutter and ensure inclusive design.

Apartment block charging.

I live in Dublin and on way into work a while back around 6:45 am I noticed a neighbour running a wire across the pavement to charge his EV.

That’s the only time I’ve seen the wire so he’s pretty conscientious about doing it at nighttime. It’s a terraced house with short front garden so no scope to charge off street.

I have mixed feelings on it. In principle it’s a trip hazard and shouldn’t be allowed but OTOH he’s doing his best to minimise risk.
