Car Capital Allowance on Tax Credit Certificates

Hi there,

I have recently received a letter from the revenue office saying that I owe them several thousands of euro in unpaid tax for 2009. As an employee, I am paying my tax through the PAYE system.

I am now in contact with them by email and I am trying to understand what happened. Now they are actually saying I owe them money not only for 2009 but also for 2006, 2007 and 2008 (I am waiting for their letter with the calculations for 2006/2007/2008). The "funny" thing is that I have had to fill a "Form 12 - Return of Income" every year since 2006, and that every year they actually refunded me a few hundred euro.

What they say it that I have been "wrongly granted a Car Capital Allowance on my Tax Credit Certificates for the years 2006 to 2009".
I have been looking on the net and haven't found any reference to Car Capital Allowance...

From 2006 onwards I did receive a car allowance from my employer, as I needed a car for my work.
How should that be taxes? Should it just be taxed like my normal salary ?
Does a "Car Capital Allowance" really exist ? And if yes, when should it be granted?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Matt
