hi all,

am currently considering changing to a new job, instead of a company car I'm looking to hold onto my own and get paid a car allowance with the salary. Can anyone advise if it is usual that either mileage or receipted fuel costs would be reimbursed in addition to the allowance or is one supposed to cover all costs with the allowance??

I'm sure there are no set rules but I'm just looking for a general overview

thanks in advance

Hey Randy (it's been a while since I've said that!)

Over the last two jobs that I've had, my car allowance was a set amount per month but I had a fuel card included (which allowed me to wash the car also). The allowance was taxable and I also paid BIK on the 'personal' element of the fuel. All other elements were paid for by me (insurance, tax, repairs etc.)

If you are interested in the financial breakdown of same, PM me and I'll give you some further detail!
