Hi,

My wife & I are jointly assessed for income tax purposes ( she is now retired , I still have PAYE income). We have some shares which are held in a joint account / both our names which we would like to sell . My question is, when we are calculating our CGT liability, If we apportion the sales and the net gains / losses to both myself and my wife equally, can we both then claim the annual personal CGT exemption of €1,270 ?

Regards,

are these shares registered in your joint names or individual.....I think that is the acid test.
