I built a house in 1984, at a cost of €100,000. I have lived in it ever since. I now wish to sell the house, and it has been valued at €750,000. Do I pay Capital Gains Tax on the difference between 100k and 750k, or is there some form of index linking to reflect the difference between the value of 100k in 1984 and now (2013)? All advice gratefully received.
As Joe_90 says. For other assets for which there is no exemption, index linking applied up until 2003. Rates to be used for each year are published on the Revenue website -- see Appendix 1 of the CGT guide.
