Costs €549 from Ireland. USA price generally about $570 / €360. Just wondering if anyone has ordered this sort of item from USA & pd Irish duty, if so what % is the duty? Or any EU supplier where it might be purchased ? Thanks in advance.

Re: Canon 440d camera

That link is for the 400D and AFAIK the is no 440D - is it a typo or did you mean the 450D?

Alot of US sites won't ship to the EU.
Have a look at the photography forum on boards.ie in terms of where to buy online.
Also check that the price includes the lens, sometimes it's a body only price (even if it shows a lens in the pic)

got on in usa, there called cannon rebel xti, amazon wont ship to here, could you get a pal going to usa to get one for you.

bought one from US. was charged slightly over 100 euro on the import duty.

i bought it from amazon - via an american website that provides postal addresses in US and then ships on - for a charge.

including shipping, the US address and the Irish duty - I still saved a few bob.

i recently bought a lens for the camera from Cameta Camera on ebay.

Cameta Camera turned up as the cheapest result when i searched for the lens on Amazon - thats how I came across them. however, amazon wouldn't post so i tried cameta camera directly. they have an e-bay store. They posted directly to Ireland and I wasn't charged any duty..... The lense was only 250 dollars though.

shop around for the 400 - its the old model now so should be reduced. - also consider buying it 'body only' - the lens that comes with it is pretty shabby - if you can get it cheap with body only, you can buy a decent lens seperatley.

just had a further look through that pixmania site.

they are selling the Canon Speedlite 430 EX (a flash) for 288 euro.

i bought it a few months ago for 275 in a camera shop on georges st - near waltons.

i was actually in a camera shop today on camden st - looking for memory card - and i spotted the 430EX for 249 euro.

sorry if it seems off the point - just saying you should shop around. i've found that the irish camera selling websites aren't great. also - most of the dedicated camera shops in dublin will knock a few quid off the prices on display.

I got a Canon recently in Belfast (I'm there quite a bit). Big saving on Dublin (and most online) prices. The 400D with kit lens is STG£385 or €488 approx, which is somewhat cheaper than Pixmania, never mind local camera shops.

See www.jessops.co.uk (unfortunately they don't do Internet sales here).

It's a good option if you're in North (or elsewhere in UK) for other reasons.

By the way, I'd agree with the post above about the kit lens. The only reason for getting it if it is very cheap: you'll probbaly end up getting something better in the long run.
