Hi, Can I ask for advice before we get fleeced as our plumber gave us a quote when we started our build for €11,800 to include the condensing boiler. He had to connect up this to our HRV unit and put up solar panels and put in our water tank and do all 3 ensuites, bathroom, utility.

Is this dear, as he is finishes next week and I feel he is going to come down hard on us for extra costs as he also put in our oil tank and ran the line to our house, probably a few other niddly bits also but damn all but basically plumb a new build with solar, boiler & water tank? He is a tough man so I want to be able to handle him if he says we owe him €14,000!!! So, can I ask him for an itemised list of what his costs are if he does say this??

Surely the oil tank and connection was included in original price. If he priced for a new build it will be included. stick to your guns on that point.

Extras usually happen because client changes their mind with respect of location of radiators, different shower type etc. Anything that has to be redone on client request.
other extras include outside tap, extra applanice in kitchen etc.

You are his client and have a right to an itemised bill. Don't pay until you have it.

replica situation to you but uynfortunately quote was more like 20K. Im awaiting an itemised bill for over a year.

certainly don't believe you're entitled to an itemised bill for the original quote - if, after reviewing, rejecting other quotes you chose this particular plumber so be it.

You ARE entitled to a breakdown of the extras - this way you can check cost of materials, time taken to order, take delivery, move to correct position, construct grounds, fit tank and run pipes to the house - if he's charging more than 300 / 400 a day you can start complaining.

when you got the original quote was there not a break down of costs then, i mean surely he did'nt pluck the €11800 figure from thin air

Ask him in advance how is he getting on with the original price and will he be on budget and how much extra, if any ,you owe him and could he break it down for you.
