Can you change marble fire surround

Hi looking at redecorating living room and feel the fireplace is just oldfashioned. The wood surround is fine and think we could paint it, but the inset is marble and would love to change that, this as you can guess is my attempt to do an inexpensive job.
Any ideas

Why not consider tiling over the marble, less mess and cheaper. There are ceramic tile suppliers that specialise in fire surround inserts

Hi Johnjoda, can you help with names of suppliers of the ceramic tiles. Did not think that would be possible. Sounds good, and would be interested in checking it out.
