Can un-opened tin of paint go out of date?

I have a 5 litre tin of Dulex paint at home. It is a couple of years old and I have never opened it.
Would it be ok to use it at this stage?
 
I'd turn it upside down a few times, stir it well and give it a try. I've used even tins that have been opened, used and resealed a few times and no probs.

I will need a second tin, so I'm thinking of using the old tin as the first coat anyway and the newer tin as the second coat. The colour is still done by Dulex
 
If it is imulsion/water based and has been left in freezing coditions it is ruined.
