Can the ESB legally install a pillar on your Property?

Anyone know if the ESB have a legal right to install an electric pillar on your property? Its a box about 3 feet by 2 feet so its a good size and will be ugly. Thanks for any help

1. Where on your property is it to be installed?
2. The ESB has one within our outside wall and although I wish it weren't there, its serving the other residents and so somebody must "house" the box. Therefore, no problem with me. 3 feet by 2 feet is not bad.

Its a commercial shop and they are installing it on the front of the building. They told me they can get a waiver to put it there if I don't agree. Apparently once they're one inch from my property its council property. I wasn't happy but they gave me a cheque for e1,200 so that's something. Thanks for the answers and in a nutshell 'yes' they can.
