Can small pension pots be cashed in very early?

I have some vague idea that the rules were changed some years ago to allow people with small pension pots to cash them?

Am I confusing this with the early access to AVCs for three years? Or is there some separate scheme?

If so, what are the rules?

Thanks lads

So
1) They can't take the pension early - they have to wait until 60 if its an occupational pension
2) It's subject to normal income tax anyway.

A couple of months ago you said on this thread if the pension is under €20000 the whole lot could be taken in one go, you should have been aware of the changes, now I am confused.

The OP asked if a small pension pot could be cashed in very early. You can't take a small pension any earlier than a large pension.
